Language Arts
Reading Requirements
In addition to the reading text and core literature, every student will be required
to complete independent reading. Students are encouraged to read books within their AR level as determined by the STAR test. The corresponding AR test must be taken and passed at 70% or higher. Some book recommendations for 4th graders.
Accelerated Reader
1st trimester - 3 books
2nd trimester – 3 books (maybe more!)
3rd trimester – 3 books (maybe more!)
Students will complete the required amount of reading at their individual reading level as determined by the STAR test. The corresponding AR test must be taken and passed at 70% or higher. If a vocabulary test is available, students must also take the vocabulary test.

Two Years Before the Mast by Richard Henry Dana
Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell
*and possibly others
Writing: Multiple paragraphs - opinion, informative/explanatory, and narratives
